  • The Bad Ups Announces Debut Album “Life of Sin”, Shares New Song “Ego Trip”

  • Philadelphia-based punk rock band The Bad Ups, consisting of Travis McKayle (guitar/vocals), Chris Slaughter (drums), Mike Dougherty (guitar) and Sean Smith (bass), has announced their debut album “Life of Sin” on September 27, 2024 via Jump Start Records.

The album comprises a 11-track, which was recorded by Chris Slaughter at The Myth Lab Studios and Scott Minner at The Armory Studios. Mastered by Dan Coutant at Sun Room Audio.
From the album, the band released the first single called “Ego Trip” on August 1, 2024.

The band frontman Travis McKayle said of the song, “'Ego Trip' is about finding your place in the world while staying true to yourself.”
  • The band draws heavy inspiration from the Epitaph and Fat Wreck bands of the 90s and early 2000s, while also embracing the rhythms of traditional ska and reggae. Channeling the spirit of Bad Brains, they blend these genres into a unique sound.

Travis McKayle, who is of Jamaican descent, named the band The Bad Ups after the Caribbean patois term “baddup”, which means to treat someone poorly or violently.
This name reflects their intense musical style and their ability to connect with the term's cultural roots.
