Rex Orange County Premieres New Song “The Table” on BBC Radio 1
British singer-songwriter Alex O'Connor, aka Rex Orange County premiered a new song “The Table” on BBC Radio 1's New Music Show with Jack Saunders.
The song is the third single off of his upcoming fifth studio album “The Alexander Technique”, following “Alexander” and “Guitar Song”.
The new album is set to be released on September 6, 2024 and comprises a 16-track, featuring a guest appearance from James Blake.
The track was written and produced by Alex O'Connor, with production by Teo Halm and Jim Reed.
The accompanying music video directed by Nick Walker.
Alex O'Connor told Jack Saunders about the song, “I think it's the this song is really about thinking about everything outside of yourself and thinking further and thinking about what maybe happened around you before you and not being so self centered I suppose I'm looking outside of yourself.”- He continued, “I was literally looking at a table I thought I'd spent the evening like writing all the songs. I was kind of doing stuff in that zone already writing them and then thought for when I was literally laying down to go to sleep, looked at the table and thought and wonder what would it mean? Oh, I wonder what tree that wood came from etc.”
He added, “I think it's more recently, I suppose a lot of the music I've done is a lot about myself. And it's more I focus that it's totally a newer thing that I'm kind of being a bit more somber, a bit more like awareness of just like the whole world is a lot bigger than just what's going on in my own life.” -
He wrote the song with guitar.
Alex O'Connor said, “And in fact, that was actually written on my very good friend's Mom's guitar. I think it was like his grandma's guitar and they handed it to me. And I'm actually wrote that song as the first thing I wrote on that guitar.”
