  • British singer-songwriter Mae Stephens released her debut EP “Securely Insecure” on August 2, 2024.

The EP comprises a 4-track, including three original songs and a cover of American rock band Kings Of Leon's “Use Somebody”.
Written by Mae Stephens, Dee Adams, Ollie Green, Jheynner Argote Frias, and Morgan Avenue.
Produced by Dee Adams, Ollie Green, Morgan Avenue, and Jheynner Argote Frias.
The original version of “Use Somebody” was released by Kings Of Leon from their fourth studio album “Only by the Night” in 2008.

Mae Stephens explained, “'Securely Insecure' delves into profound themes of identity, trauma, and self-discovery. It encapsulates the desire to break free from the confines of judgmental communities, bravely confronts the scars of past trauma, and navigates the complexities of imposter syndrome. These tracks offer a powerful narrative of human vulnerability and the universal search for authenticity amidst life's challenges.”
  • Mae Stephens said of the EP, “Writing this Ep has been a journey I will never forget. I have worked with some phenomenal producers bringing to light the trials and tribulations of growing up facing bullying and social pressures. This will be the hardest thing for me to release so far. ”

She continued, “Securely Insecure is a glimpse of what was going through my head, from body dysmorphia to Anxiety and dissociation from reality. I faced my own fears of opening up about my deepest feelings. I have buried these away for so long and now it's time for them to come to the surface. From small town syndrome talking about the pressures of living in a small town and the gossip that comes with it to Stranger, a ballad about the dissociation from reality and talking to your past self. You don't remember me diving into the ricochet of years of bullying and how it can affect someone's development into an adult.”

She Added, “With an added bonus track of 'Use somebody' by kings of Leon this Ep truly is a piece of my soul. And so I hope baring my soul will help people understand the effects of childhood bullying and teach to be kinder. You never know who that kid will grow up to be.”

  • Mae Stephens explained about some tracks for the EP.

    “Stranger”
“I had a little moment while in Japan to remind myself of my roots”

    “Small Town Syndrome”
“It's about being in a small town and everyone knowing everyone's business. The lyrics tell you how I was hiding behind walls, putting on a brave face while feeling the weight of gossip and judgment. The chorus reflects the struggle to find a way out of this, resonating with anyone who's ever felt stuck and misunderstood in a close-knit community. The song's main theme is really of those dreaming of escape and new beginnings.”

    “You Don't Remember Me”
“'You Don't Remember Me' sparked from a conversation with my friend about recognising our childhood bullies on the street, and that feeling of dread that comes with it.I realised that it's such a universal thing, feeling that fear of being put back into that mindset from such a distressing time.I hope those of you who can identify with that feeling can find solace in knowing that someone out here understands. You are not alone.”
