Gordo Releases Two New Songs “Healing” & “Sideways” featuring Drake from Debut Album “DIAMANTE”
Los Angeles-based Nicaraguan-American DJ Gordo, formerly known as Carnage, has teamed up with Canadian rapper Drake to release two new songs “Healing” and “Sideways”.
Both songs are featured on his debut album “DIAMANTE” as Gordo, which was released on July 26, 2024.
This marks their first collaboration since Drake's 2023 album “For All the Dogs” and 2022 album “Honestly, Nevermind”.
Gordo said, "We've been friends for years but had never actually properly collaborated on music before Honestly, Nevermind. To have him on my debut album speaks volumes about what people can expect on it."
“Healing” was written by A. Graham, Diamante Anthony Blackmon, Johannes Klahr, Ori Alboher, and Richard Zastenker. Produced by Gordo, LIOHN, Klahr, and Ori Alboher.
The accompanying music video was directed by Theo Skudra.
Gordo said of the song, “About 2 months ago while I was scrolling through TikTok, I stumbled upon THE DON Madfunz, a guy from South Africa with amazing energy. His taste in music grabbed my attention, but it was his dancing, smile and story that really hooked me. The Don would walk 9 miles to work every single day despite the weather or his personal safety… he risked it all for his family… and dreamed one day of his very slow walk being over and finally being able to own a car for himself so he can provide for his family.”- He continued, “When I was thinking about the “HEALING” music video, I couldn't get Don out of my head... I knew I had to get him involved… so I hit up my friend, and director, Theo Skudra, and we decided to make a video following a day in Don's life. We filmed in Dududu, a rural area about an hour outside of Durban. We captured Don's everyday life – the simple joys, the positivity, and the resilience. While I couldn't be there, the best part of this whole process was at the end when I surprised Don with a car. Seeing his reaction was priceless. It was one of his dreams to own a car, and knowing I could help make that happen was incredible.”
He added, With this video, “I wanted to show that Don's positive attitude and joyful spirit are something we can all learn from, no matter what we're going through. His story is a reminder that even when life gets tough, you can still find reasons to smile. I hope this video touches your hearts like it did mine.” - “Sideways” was written by A. Graham, David Karbal, Diamante Anthony Blackmon, Kasablanca, Marcel Kosic, Richard Beynon, Tiernan Kelly, and Tinashe Sibanda. Produced by Gordo, Aryay, Bantu, BYNON, Kasablanca, Klahr, LIOHN, TK, Vlado.
The debut album comprises a 16-track, featuring guest appearances from Afshin Momadi, &ME, Drake, Feid, Fuerza Regida, Karolina Falk, Larry June, Leon Bridges, Maluma, NTO, Rampa, T-Pain, NICKI NICOLE, Sech, and Young Dolph.
The album is titled after Gordo's real first name.
Gordo said of the album, “This album is 4 years in the making. I called in every favor I could for this body of work. It's really really beautiful. I have never been so nervous in my life. I guess that's a good sign??? To be honest with you all. I thought about calling it quits after I dropped this album. I felt a bit lost when I finished it because I couldn't fathom something better than this. Everything I've dreamed of is right here in this project. All of my dreams collab came true. So many talented people helped with this project. I'm so grateful. This isn't a Gordo album. It's a Diamante album from Carnage to Gordo. It's been a wild ride. I hope I make you guys proud. I am dedicating this album to my grandmother aura & my beautiful cousin Cathy who's not with us anymore.”
