KARMACODA Releases New Album “You And I”
San Francisco-based trip-hop band KARMACODA, consisting of Jessica Ford (vocals), Brett Crockett aka B. (vocals/ producer), and Eric Matsuno (bass), released their new album “You And I” on July 26, 204 via Sola Musa Music.
The album is their first body of work in two year since the 2022 album “Lessons in Time”.
The album comprises a 11-track, focusing on love, friendship, and relationships. It blends R&B, jazz, and dream pop with Jessica Ford's soulful vocals and electronic sound.
All songs were written by Brett Crockett, Eric Matsuno, and Jessica Ford. Produced by Brett Crockett.
The band lead singer Jessica Ford said of the album, “This album is always going to hold a very special place in my heart. It is filled with love, friendship, joy and emotion. It is creative and doesn't squeeze us into a specific genre. It is just KARMACODA. I love it.”- Jessica Ford explained about some tracks for the album.
“Try At Me”
“I wrote this song about a young girl I teach singing to. She had been through so much loss, anger, sadness and so many trials; more than any little girl should ever have to endure. I watched her fall into a depression, so much so, she didn't want to sing anymore. Slowly but surely, through love, time and a lot of work, she started coming back, becoming more confident. I watched her fight for it.The song 'Try At Me'… the words are “it's time to try at me”, in other words, it's time to give myself some girl power. It's time to find myself, it's time for me to rise, take a chance on myself, get out of this dark place, be heard, grow, and take a leap of faith, even when I feel beat up, I know I can stand up, try at me. She did, and she is. She is singing again. I couldn't love this more. To my girl, this one's for you.” -
“Unfolded (Put a Little Love)”
“It's that feel good song with admittance of loving someone and letting them know how you feel. You can't keep it a secret anymore. You gotta tell them, hoping they will feel the same. Mad crush vibes with a tinge of nervousness, when you finally let the cat out of the bag. Like “are you feeling what I'm feeling?” If so, let's take this friendship to the next level, and I'm feeling excited so… put a little love in your heart and match me.”
“Dreaming”
“I wrote the lyrics and melodies to B.'s track, and a duet just flowed out of me. I could hear his amazing voice walking us through, where everything you see, smell, or hear reminds you of that special someone. It's walking us through places and times that were special and memorable. The different places love happens and memories are made... that are brought to the surface of your mind when you are put back in that similar situation. Even the flicker of candlelight. I'm dreaming of you. When you are taken back to that time, that emotion... where all you can think about is... it was so good. 'I'm Dreaming of You.' You can see the images in your mind of the story unfolding, I love songs like that.”
