  • Cody Simpson Returns With New Song “Fly”

  • Australian singer-songwriter Cody Simpson returned with a new song “Fly” on July 26, 2024.

The song is his first music in two years since the 2022 self-titled album.
The track is inspired by his journey for the Olympic Games and is dedicated to the Australian Dolphins Olympics team.
It was written and produced by Cody Simpson, with production by Magnus Murphy.

Cody Simpson said of the song, “This is a reflection on my journey returning to life as a competitive athlete experiencing the all-encompassing grind and commitment to the work required to compete at the highest level of elite swimming. It's also my gift to my friends and fellow athletes competing for Australia in the pool at the Paris Olympic Games.”
  • Back in 2019, Cody Simpson decided to shift his focus from music to competitive swimming again, aiming for the Paris Olympic Games.
Since then, he has trained under different coaches including two-time Olympian Brett Hawke.
He made the 2022 Commonwealth Games team and went home with a gold medal as a member of the victorious 4x100m freestyle relay team.
He entered a swimming trial in Brisbane in June 2024 to qualify for the Paris Games.
Needing a top-two finish in the 100 butterfly to qualify, Cody Simpson took fifth place in 51.79 seconds, and his dream was over.

  • Cody Simpson said after the race, “I am proud of myself and I knew it was going to be a tight one tonight. Knew I was going to have to pull something out of myself, but I was very close to my best swim. All you can do is all you can do. Which is a saying I quite like because what else can you do? But it's been an amazing four-year journey. Having the privilege of swimming for Australia and winning medals internationally with the men's relay and, you know, world cups.”

He continued, “It has been absolutely unbelievable. I gave everything I had this week and sometimes that's all you can do. I can remember in 2022 everyone was like 'what are you doing? This is absolutely impossible.' I said 'well, I just want to see what I can get out of myself'. I think I have been able to satisfy a part of myself that was certainly a fire burning very much inside me. I've been able to fulfil those curiosities and desires I had. I have learned so much and grown so much from it.”

He added, “And how I can take that back into music and entertainment and see what I can do - there's some exciting projects lined up for after this that I was going to go back and do regardless of how this week went.”
