  • The Backfires Returns With New Song “Brighter Lights”

  • New York-based indie rock band The Backfires, consisting of Alex Gomez (vocals), Harry Ruprecht (guitar), Max Wanduragala (drums) and Matt Walter (bass), returned with a new song “Brighter Lights”on July 18, 2024.

The song is their first release in a year and a half since the 2023 single “Joyride”.
The track is inspired by the city’s infamous nightlife.
It was written by Alex Gomez, Henry Ruprecht, and Max Wanduragala.

“We wanted to make a song that sounds like New York,” the band said of the song. “Then we got to recording and made the beginning of the track feel like you were entering a club. The song nods to the dance and club music of New York that we’ve gotten to experience in the past couple of years of living here.”
  • The accompanying music video was directed by Ayad al Adhamy.
The clip portrays the band involved in a complex heist aimed at stealing a disco ball.

They said of the video, “The video is this ridiculous spectacle of action and excitement that’s reflective of being in the energy of New York. The bright lights of New York are intoxicating but are shrouded in superficiality. Who would carry out a heist for a disco ball, and drive away in a convertible, all to perform at a nightclub? It’s absurd.”
