  • Overmono Premieres New Song “Gem Lingo (ovr now)” featuring Ruthven on BBC Radio 1

  • London-based electronic music duo Overmono, consisting of Tom Russell and Ed Russell, premiered a new song “Gem Lingo (ovr now)” on BBC Radio 1's New Music Show with Jack Saunders.

This time, the duo teamed up with London-based singer-songwriter Ruthven on the track.
The song is the third single of 2024, following “Turn The Page” with The Streets and “stayinit” with Fred again.., and Lil Yachty.
The track was written by A. K. Paul, Ed Russell, Sean Nelson, and Tom Russell. Produced by Overmono.

Tom Russell told Jack Saunders about the song, “I've arrived at Ed's place at about seven or eight o'clock at night. And he's like, I got this beat on a go. I was gonna hear as I echo and went down the studio, and as I was pretty cool, and started coming up vocal, and basically just spent the whole night making the track.”
  • Ed Russell continued, I think like when we're making music, it always starts in either like one of two ways. Either you go into the studio and you just have like no idea and you're just messing around see what happens. Or you've kind of picked up on little bits and bobs like from other things that you've been listening to and then that can inform where you go with and I think with this one, the starting point for like one of the kind of main signs a starting point was... that starts with like an unbelievable sound.”

  • He added, “And we're trying to recreate this noise (sampling metal sound). I was like when Tom arrived, I was like I've got this beat. It's better to start a show you recommend is to try and nail something like that. So we set up this like mega long chain of guitar pedals and then started running loads of sense through it to try and get this like really mad like Metallica anyway, like what normally happens you don't actually get anywhere near where you are aiming for but it's a place to start with.”
