  • Cassadee Pope Releases New Album “Hereditary”

  • American singer-songwriter Cassadee Pope released her fourth studio album “Hereditary” on July 12, 2024.

The album comprises a 12-track, featuring guest appearances from American rapper Daisha McBride and American rock band Underoath member Aaron Gillespie.
Produced by Aaron Gillespie, Andrew Luce, Cassadee Pope, Dan Swank, Hosu, Hosu Yoon, Jake Saghi, Mason Sacks, Mitchell Marlow and Nick Furlong.
On the album, she is back to pup punk her roots from country music. Originally she was lead singer of the pop rock band Hey Monday.
Also, she said that part of the reason for leaving country music was due to the racist and sexist politics that were associated with the genre.

Cassadee Pope said of the album, “This album follows my journey of self discovery so closely that I feel a little nervous to share certain things. But I needed to let it out. Creating this album was like a 2 year therapy session that continues to be there for me even after its completion”
  • She continued, “I remember feeling this weight lifted off my shoulders when I stopped letting anger consume me. The resentment was like a blanket I thought was keeping me warm but all it did was prolong the pain. It was important for me to write this because I wanted to capture that moment where I felt free for the first time. It’s sometimes quick and easy to miss, but I didn’t want to forget that feeling.”

She added, “My new album Hereditary offers a soundtrack to navigate the complexities of life with authenticity and courage. I couldn't think of a better backdrop for these lyrics than pop/punk and I hope this album gives people permission to feel everything!”

  • Cassadee Pope explained about some tracks for the album.

    “People That I Love Leave”
“This next project has an authenticity that I’ve never been able to tap into before now. Pop and rock music is such a staple in my creativity so to fully return back to that genre feels special and like coming back home. I wanted to lead with a high energy, uptempo song. I love jumping around on stage and always have since Hey Monday. This song gives people a pretty clear picture of where I’m headed sonically and energetically.”

    “Eye Contact”
“I wanted to write a song about the lasting effects a liar has on someone else. Sometimes the very thought of maintaining eye contact with someone after being betrayed can feel impossible. I wanted to compliment the lyric with a heavy approach sonically and I feel like that really gets the frustration across.”

    “More To Me”
“I wrote “More To Me” two years ago during a time where the future of my career felt uncertain. I was coming off the heels of another album I poured my heart and soul into and it just felt like it didn’t matter. I needed to write this and I’m so glad I did with my sis Ali Tamposi.”

    “Three of Us”
“‘Three Of Us’ is about how heartbreaking it is to watch someone you love struggle with addiction. It’s a subject I’ve never written about but feel ready to share with my fans. And unfortunately, I know many of them have experienced something similar.
You all sent me handwritten notes last year about your experiences with loved ones and their struggles with substance abuse. I printed them out and hung them behind me for the video, further highlighting how we've all been touched by this issue. If you see your story in the video, know that I love you and appreciate you sharing your story with me SO much. Makes me feel less alone... I hope you do too.”

    “Almost There”
“I think a lot of us are taught from an early age that indulging our desires is shameful and not ladylike. It was only when I started to shed that shame and embrace my sensual nature that I began feeling like myself. For this song, I wanted to let people see a side of me they haven't seen before and validate them in their own desires.”

    “I Died” featuring Daisha McBride
Cassadee Pope: “I remember DMing Daisha on a whim last year, letting her know I was a fan and would love to write sometime. Not only did we get a great song together but we both got a new friend in the end. We decided to have fun with this lyric and create the scenario where Daisha and I are actually haunting our exes. The song talks about being made to feel like a ghost when somebody cuts you off.
I knew nobody would be able to execute my idea for this video better than my friend Ed Pryor. We wanted the aesthetic to really lean into the lyric about feeling like someone has made you feel like a ghost by cutting you off. We flipped the lyric on it's head and decided to have Daisha and I essentially haunt our exes with creepy camcorder recordings and sauntering in the shadows. It was very fun to shoot and I absolutely love the eeriness of it!”

Daisha McBride: “This collab was so fun to do and I'm glad Cass and I could make this happen! Even though I'm a rapper I love dipping into other genres and experimenting so this was right up my alley. Nashville is so well-known for just country music so I'm glad we could merge rock and hiphop AND do it out of Nashville.”
