Simple Plan Covers Elton John's “Can You Feel The Love Tonight” from Disney's New Album “A Whole New Sound”
Canadian rock band Simple Plan, consisting of Pierre Bouvier (lead vocal), Chuck Comeau (drums), Sébastien Lefebvre (rhythm guitar) and Jeff Stinco (lead guitar), released a cover of British singer-songwriter Elton John's “Can You Feel The Love Tonight” on July 12, 2024.
The song is the first single off of Disney's upcoming album “A Whole New Sound”, which features Disney's greatest hits covered by alternative, rock and pop-punk bands.
The album is a collection of the Mouse House’s 30th anniversary celebration of the iconic animated classic.
The original version of the song was released by Elton John from Disney's animated film “The Lion King” soundtrack in 1994.
The song won Best Original Song At the 67th Academy Awards, Best Male Pop Vocal Performance at the 37th Grammy Award and Best Song at the 52nd Golden Globe Awards.
The track was written by Tim Rice and Elton John. The cover version was produced by Jon Lundin and Pierre Bouvier.
The band will perform the song at D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event in Anaheim, California on August 9, 2024.- Simple Plan said of the song, “We wanted to pay homage to Sir Elton John's original version while also adding our own style to it and making it sound fun and energetic. We're really stoked by how it turned out and we hope everyone will enjoy it.”
The band continued, “We grew up watching Disney movies with our families and now we get to enjoy them with our own kids so it's pretty amazing to have been invited to be on this album.” -
