Camila Cabello Releases New Album “C, XOXO”
American singer-songwriter Camila Cabello released her fourth studio album “C, XOXO” on June 28, 2024.
The album is the first release under her new label Geffen and Interscope Records, following her departure from Epic Records.
The album comprises a 14-track, featuring guest appearances from Playboi Carti, Lil Nas X, JT, Yung Miami, BLP Koshe, PinkPantheress and Drake.
Produced by Boi-1da, Daniel Aged, FnZ, El Guincho, Jasper Harris, Kid Masterpiece, Aaron Shadrow, and Yogi.
The album is set in the 305, which is famously Miami's original area code.
Camila Cabello said of the album, “This album is signed C,XOXO- but this project could not exist without the loving army of people around me who 1. Fuckin GOT me 2. Shared with me the art, movies, music, fashion and books that inform who I am 3. Are, without a doubt, the best part of being alive. The quality of people I have in my life is truly the biggest superpower, and the world of C,XOXO was, with the care we could muster, spoon fed by these people into becoming.”- This time, Camila Cabello is going back to her roots and passion for songwriting, crafting the album that features pop melodies as well as rap structures.
Camila Cabello told Zane Lowe of Apple Music about the album, “It's having pop melodies, but with rap structure. It is the thesis statement for the album. I was like, this is literally the voice of C,XOXO. It's playful. She's in control. She's putting on her lip gloss. She's toying with this guy. She's magical. She's sensitive.”
She continued, “Letting go of the safety net of other co-writers in the room allowed for there to be more space for me to hear my own voice. When you are younger, you feel like you are looking for other people to point out the way a little bit more, and that voice inside you, you're listening to, but you don't totally trust. I think as I've gotten older, I'm like, you know what? I'm just going to listen to myself. I'm comfortable being, like, it's on me today, and whether it fails or succeeds, I can trust myself to do it.” - Also, Camila Cabello told Alexandra Cooper of Call Her Daddy about the album, “It's really sitting in the discomfort of things and realizing there's not gonna be a neat, in-a-box answer. I feel strong in these ways, weak in these ways, and there's no real clear answer here. But the album process has been such a journey. It started out with me having that intention of going back to how it started for me, which was just sitting with myself and really getting back to that first passion of songwriting. Nerding out over references and artists and poetry - whatever - and really tapping into that.”
Camila Cabello explained about some tracks for the album.
“I LUV IT” featuring Playboi Carti
Certain things in our human realm do make me feel like I'm in outer space, and the very rare few times where I've had incredible chemistry with someone is one of them. Part of that cocktail is also the emotional drama between you and that person, and the chaos and butterflies and nerves and passion. It's unsustainable and not peaceful and exhausting, but also, I LUV IT.
“Chanel No.5”
“The world of C, XOXO is a very sensual one , and in the root meaning sense of that word. sensual meaning “of the senses”- taste, touch, sight, smell, sound. I wanted you to be in the sensory world I was in when I wrote it - red chipped nails is our way of wabi sabi being tongue tied is also shibari we're subtle and complex like the taste of umami magic and real like a murakami novel. And most of all, I want us to feel powerful when we are seen, heard, touched, inhaled, and tasted that wrist spritz spritz made him come alive Chanel n. 5.”
“HE KNOWS” featuring Lil Nas X
“Whenever I go into the studio I kind of I'm always like looking for what kind of thing have I not done before. And I have never done anything that felt kind of like housey I said that to Gino and Jasper and pulled out this Jeremy sample of give it up to me, and then we didn't have the second verse because we were like we know we need somebody on this song, we need somebody iconic, we need a cultural icon, we need a true artist, we need a musician, we need Lil Nas X.”
“Uuugly” featuring Drake
“Why does he have his own song? Because selfishly, I just want to hear Drake on my own album. I love that for me — it's like that rebellious mood. Who says I can't do that? It's Drake talking his sh-t.” - source : Apple Music
