  • Lola Young Releases New Album “This Wasn't Meant For You Anyway”

  • British singer-songwriter Lola Young released her new album “This Wasn't Meant For You Anyway” on June 21, 2024.

The album is her first body of work in a year since her previous project “My Mind Wanders and Sometimes Leaves Completely”, which was released last May.
When “My Mind Wanders and Sometimes Leaves Completely” was released, she didn't call it the album, she called it the project.
The new album comprises 11-track, produced by Buddy Ross, Carter Lang, Cass Lowe, Manuka, Matt Zara, Monsune and Solomonophonic.
It is addressed primarily to a series of disappointing exes.

Lola Young said of the album, “This album means so so much to me, it has been made from so much hard work, blood, sweat and tears (quite literally) and I am so proud that it is out. This is a part of me, a part of me that will exist forever and always remind me of who I am, and everything I have gone through. This music shows exactly why I have never given up, it was all for me to end up here.”

She added, “Thank you to everyone who has been a part of making my vision possible, and most importantly all of you for supporting me, I love you all so much. And to anyone who doesn't quite get me or this album, this wasn't meant for you anyway.”
  • Before the release of the album, she shared a handwriting post about the album, “I am dealing with a lot of shit at the moment, I have gone away to face somethings that I have been meaning face for a while, and to gust clear my head a little bit. Social media is only always a widow into somebody's life and sometimes that window is rose tinted, but I have always tried to be as open and honest as I can be on here. If anyone feels like I would be doing something better or different thought, please do always let me know.”

She continued, “Anyway, being unway has got me thinking about this never ending journey I am on. Music is all I known the only thing I am good at, and my way of understanding myself. It is my one and only true love, but I am slowly, but surely learning but I can to be that for myself. I hope you all know that this album is the first of many, each one will be a difficult insight into my mind, my fucked up thought, feelings, insecurities and ex's.”

  • Lola Young explained about some tracks for the album.

    “Good Books”
“Sometimes you've gotta be careful that you're not hurting yourself when you're trying to love somebody. I wrote this song when i was bending over backwards, snapping my own backbone just trying to stay in this persons 'Good Books'. I would hand out my love, only to receive back pain. Being in love and choosing to actively love somebody should never feel like a chore, and should always feel easy and magical, otherwise whats the point?“

    “Wish You Were Dead”
“I feel inspired and positive about 2024 and if you know me or my music feeling this way isn't a given. This year is about leaving the negative shit behind. Surrounding myself with people that understand me, support me, make me feel. I'm grateful to be alive. I'm awake. If you've had a toxic ex my new single is for u and its called wish you were dead.”

    “Messy”
“This song is one of the most honest songs ive ever written, its about not being able to make someone you love happy, when you're just being you, which actually sucks. How the hell can being yourself actually be so uncomfortable sometimes?
I actually loved writing this and I fully poured my heart into making this song too. Shout out to everyone that was involved in helping turn this song that i wrote in my bedroom into a proper raw but beautiful sounding record. I hope you can cry to this one, or maybe try putting it on and cleaning that bloody room of yours.”
