Kygo Releases New Album “KYGO”
Norwegian DJ Kygo released his self-titled fifth studio album on June 21, 2024 via RCA Records.
It is his first album in two years since the 2022 album “Thrill of the Chase”.
The album comprises a 18-track, including a remix of M83's "Wait", and contains guest appearances from Sigrid, Ava Max, Fred Well, Plested, the Jonas Brothers, Zak Abel, Julia Michaels, Chance Peña, Sandro Cavazza, Emmit Fenn, Sasha Alex Sloan, Nile Rodgers, Hayla, and Matt Hansen.
Produced by Stuart Crichton, Kygo, Franklin, Ollie Green, Petey Martin, Luke Niccoli, and Nile Rodgers.
Kygo said of the album, “After 10 years of releasing music, I decided it was time for a self-titled album. I'm so excited to finally announce that my new album 'KYGO'. I've worked really hard on this one the last 2 years.”- Kygo told Zane Low of Apple Music about the album, “I'm super proud of it. I've been working on this for last two years since I dropped my last album and I think it's the first time I ever to really take the time to not rush anything and just spent a lot of time in the studio and I kind of didn't set like a deadline or anything for myself. I just figured that this album is gonna be ready when it's ready. And then, this feels like the right time. I just I was hoping to get it out before summer . I just I had like, this date I had in my head but I just I didn't know if I was gonna be able to to get it done because I didn't want to rush anything but now, I'm just super proud of it. And and I hope everyone else is gonna like it as well.”
To celebrate the release of the album, Kygo recorded and filmed a special live performance at Troll's Tan, a jutting cliff overlooking beautiful Ringedalsvatnet lake in Norway.
A number of collaborators appear on the video, including Sigrid, Zak Abel, HAYLA and Sandro Cavazza. - Kygo explained about some tracks for the album.
“Me Before You” with Plested
Kygo: “This is one of my favorite songs I've done in a really long time. I was at the studio in LA and I was scrolling on Instagram and I saw this video Plested posted. And I just love that melody that he was singing. So I ended up just taking the audio from Instagram and I sped it up quite a bit. And then I added some background ambience. I added some synth (sound), all together (sound), It sounded like this.”
Phil Plested: “Mike Wise & I literally wrote this song 6 weeks ago, I loved it so much that I posted the chorus here on insta. Kygo then messaged me asking to work on it and of course I said YES. Thank you to Kygo & Mike for trusting my lyrics and writing such a heart felt song with me. Thank you to all our teams for getting it over the line in record speed. And thank you to my partner for inspiring the concept and just generally being amazing.”
