Self Esteem Premieres New Song ”Big Man” with Moonchild Sanelly on BBC Radio 1
British singer-songwriter Self Esteem is back. She premiered a new song ”Big Man” on BBC Radio 1's New Music Show with Jack Saunders.
The song is her first music in three years since the 2021 album ”Prioritise Pleasure”.
This time, she teamed up with South African singer-songwriter Moonchild Sanelly on the track.
The track was written by Rebecca Lucy Taylor, Sanelisiwe Twisha, and Johan Hugo who also produced it.
The song is accompanied by the Piers Dennis-directed music video.
Self Esteem said of the song, “Me and Moon wrote a song from the perspective of a good boyfriend. The ones that are just chill and secure so they just leave you to it. The ones that don't want a medal for doing the bins. The ones that see that you're working your tits off so they go and get yet another thing you've ordered and missed the delivery of from the post office. The ones that don't take your success as a direct threat to their existence. To me this is real masculinity.”- She told Jack Saunders about the song, ”Like still literally like how much do we joke about like, oh, he never does the washing up kind of thing, but that's still a thing. So anyway, I like I'm just toying a lot on this next record with the idea of masculinity and how feminism has moved and masculinity is struggling to figure out how to move with it. And I don't think it's as difficult as everyone thinks.”
