  • Jamie xx Premieres New Song “Life” featuring Robyn on BBC Radio 1

  • Earlier this month, British DJ and indie pop band The xx's member Jamie xx announced his upcoming sophomore album “In Waves” would be released on September 20, 2024.

It is his first album in nine years the 2015 debut album “In Colour”.
The album comprises a 12-track, featuring guest appearances from Romy, Oliver Sim, Honey Dijon, Kelsey Lu, John Glacier, Panda Bear, Robyn, the Avalanches, and Oona Doherty, produced by Jamie xx.

Jamie xx said of the album, “I am so unbelievably happy. It's been a while and a lot has happened in that time. Ups and downs, growing up, figuring stuff out and then forgetting it all many times over. Life changing events and world changing events. These waves that we have all experienced together and alone. I wanted to make something fun, joyful and introspective all at once. The best moments on a dance floor are usually that for me.”
  • From the album, he premiered a new song “Life” on BBC Radio 1's New Music Show with Jack Saunders.
This time, he teamed up with Swedish pop singer-songwriter Robyn on the track.
The track was written by James Smith, Klas Ahlund, Marc Cerrone, Raymond Georges Henri Donnez, and Robin Carlsson. Produced by Jamie xx.

Jamie xx said of song in a statement, “I made this track pretty fast (for me) and I loved it from day one. When I first heard Robyn's vocal it was at 6am after finishing playing at Pacha in Ibiza, it was the perfect moment. Robyn and I have spent time working together and hanging out for some years now, it's always a joy and always inspiring, I'm so glad and grateful that she is a part of In Waves. Thank you Robyn for bringing this track to life!”

Robyn added, “I just want to see how 'Life' gets people dancing this summer. I can't wait for that. Jamie is such a brilliant creator, I'm excited to be part of his album.”

  • Jamie xx told Jack Saunders about the song, “I think a lot of that is from the sample the original sample I heard few years ago and just one little two second video I'm making. I had this instrumental and I knew it was pretty good. But I couldn't find a vocal that was good enough and I tried a lot of things and a lot of samples and had people come in. And then luckily Robin is just so good. She liked it out of the parts straight away. I was in Ibiza. I just finished playing a passion that she texted me the vocal and it was amazing. It's like the perfect.”
