  • hard life Premieres New Song “tears” on BBC Radio 1

  • British alt-pop band hard life (formerly easy life), consisting of Murray Matravers (vocals/keyboard), Oliver Cassidy (drums), Sam Hewitt (bass), Lewis Alexander Berry (guitar) and Jordan Birtles (percussion), premiered a new song “tears” on BBC Radio 1's New Music Show with Jack Saunders.

The song is their first release after changing band name to hard life.
The international corporation easyGroup initiated legal action against the band over their name easy life back in last October.
The track was written by Murray Matravers, Natalie Bergman, and Rob Milton. Produced by Rob Milton and Murray Matravers.

The band lead singer Murray Matraver said of the song, “Since our pretty public run-in with the well-known airline, my life has been turned upside down a little bit. Everything has been on hold. All of us have had to reassess what the band means to us and come to terms with the idea that everything has a beginning, a middle and indeed, an end.”
  • He continued, “All of us have had to reassess what the band means to us and come to terms with the idea that everything has a beginning, a middle and indeed, an end. The naive optimism we had in easy life has been swapped for something more raw and, I suppose, authentic. Sitting with my thoughts and going backwards and forwards with IP lawyers, I wrote 'tears'. It highlights the absurdity of the situation as well as thanking the people who have had my back throughout this whole ordeal. Of course, this song makes me smile, and I suppose that is my way of processing. Anyway, we're back. Thanks for your patience.”

  • Murray Matraver told Jack Saunders about the song, “I mean, all of my songs really often a stream of consciousness and it just kind of brain dump things in the studio. And this one's no different, really. I think it's been a wild, insane six months. And this song kind of condenses that into two and a half minutes as best I can. But it's just to be honest, is absolutely insane to be back.”

The song samples American singer-songwriter Natalie Bergman's 2021 song “Keep Those Teardrops from Falling”.
He said, “Thing is usually I sample people are deceased or no longer hair, so you don't have a conversation with the lone person. But in this instance, we were reaching out to clear the sample and she messaged me, she like sent me an email she was I love this song you've done. I love what you've done with it. I love your interpretation of it. So I have the blessing of Natalie Bergman, which is really nice.”
