  • Margo Raats Releases Debut EP “Paper Paradise”

  • London-based Belgian singer-songwriter Margo Raats released her debut EP “Paper Paradise” on June 7, 2024.

The EP comprises 6-track, produced by Margo Raats, Daniel Hylton, Pascal Judot, and Eirik Hella.
The EP reflects on her move to the big city, exploring themes of disposable love in a chaotic generation and the disillusionment of living in London.
It is an honest and raw account of her twenty-something experience.

Margo Raats said of the EP, “Paper Paradise is a collection of songs I wrote over the last year. I took the 6 songs to Dan and I finished the EP together. The overall theme of the 6-track EP is finding love in the city's nightlife. I think we live in a time where love can feel so disposable and lonely, it sounds so beautiful and idealistic, almost old-school Disney like with some scary dark and sharp moments.”
  • She continued, “Sonically I wanted to include this as much as possible. The artwork is taken in Bergen, and it's one of the most beautiful places I have ever been to. I didn't want the picture to be edited because it's capturing nature in such a breathtaking way. Roj helped me to bring the vision alive and we played around, this picture was just a try out of me dancing. I think paper paradise, as disposable as it sounds, I wanted something real and something that felt alive.”

  • Margo Raats explained track-by-track for the EP.

“I Wish I Was The Moon”
“I wish I was the moon is an honest, self-reflective song about feeling alienated from the world and wanting to be a light for others. The song reflects emotions of self-doubt and how they combine with the struggles of the current world we live in affecting our love relationships.”

    “Crying in the Taxi”
“Sometimes I wonder if it would be better if we had a certain amount of I love you's and sorry's to give. I think words lose meaning, it's hard being honest, in a world where no one is pure. Love makes me cry, in a way it also tells me I'm alive. I wanted crying in the taxi to be a celebration of crying and leaning in, that's our duty on this earth to lean In. I wanted to be able to dance to the sound of letting go. Writing songs I often look for answers below the surface and between the lines but not with CITT. It was simple, a change in destination. For everyone who can relate to this, you should be proud + i hope you dance to it too.”

    “Night & Day”
“Night and Day is a song about celebrating the opposites within your being but also in relationships, I think in this lifetime the most important thing is to be free to exist and float wherever your mind takes you, letting go of the perception and concept of who you are and the idea of self is something I think about a lot,
I'm excited to share this piece of my mind.”

    “Ocean Lights”
“Ocean Lights is a story about being paralysed en in some ways saved by the only light around. It's one of my favourite pieces of music I've ever worked on.”

    “Paper Paradise”
“I wrote the song in my bedroom at night when I couldn't sleep. I just pressed record on my phone and freestyled the song. I ended up pretty much keeping the original form from that night. It felt like it was something I needed to write and came so naturally to me. Love in the city can feel so disposable. Paper paradise is the perfect reflection of the overall theme of the EP.”

    “Finish Line”
“The very first song Dan (Daniel Hylton) and I made together, this song means the world to me and I'm so exited for you to hear this one.”
