  • Natalie Shay Releases New EP “CHAMPAGNE”

  • London-based singer-songwriter Natalie Shay released her third EP “CHAMPAGNE” on May 24, 2024.

The EP is her first body of work in two years since the 2022 EP “Milk”
The EP comprises a 6-track, including “The Edge” which painfully recalls the demise of a friendship, the ultimate breakup anthem “Like You Boy”, and “All The Time” which details the inner-monologue of a fan girl.
The new addition of “Love Me Too” represents a self-contained lyrical rambling of all of the themes and messages throughout the EP, all collated into one song.
The EP is a personal and intimate look into her life, offering her most honest and authentic work to date.
Produced by Jordan Cosmo, Jack Wilson, Roo Primrose, Kaity Rae, Sophie Ackroyd, Flourish.

Natalie Shay said of the EP, “Every song was written during things I've learned and experienced with friendships and relationships over the last 2 years since my last EP, MILK.”
  • Natalie Shay explained about some tracks for the EP.

    “All The Time”
“It was the person that I believe my entire 'type' was formed around during adolescence. All The Time is a song following the frustration of knowing you'd work so well together after so many years, if only they could 'see you', and how nobody else has ever compared to them. They are 'the one'. No questions asked.”

    “Doing Well”
“It was super exciting to write with Fickle Friends. I've been a huge fan of their work and sound for many years. We got into the studio in Worthing and as always just started having a conversation about how we were feeling and what was going on. We realised we all kind of felt the same about remembering to stop and take in the view sometimes and it can be easy when you're chasing a dream to forget to do that, and to focus too much on the end goal. But what even is the end goal? This is a track about learning to enjoy the ride. With country pop influences and clean production. It's one of my favourite tracks to play live”

  • “The Edge”
“This is one of my favourite songs I've ever released, and as the feelings are still very raw, I'm hoping to find closure in this. Despite missing her and the good parts of the friendship so much, I know in order to still respect myself, I have to honour the power of an apology, and in this case, the lack there of one.
I am guilty of this myself, a lot of my mental health, personality and entire identity are completely wrapped up in my work. This is the same for a lot of creatives and people with a dream or goal from a young age in general. On realisation that these goals may not happen the way you'd always planned, or realising things are going to be much harder than you ever expected, this can cause trouble for some people who lack the courage. I think me and my friend are guilty of this, and subsequently this triggered the downfall.”

“I wrote it in the middle of the night in my room on my guitar in lockdown. I like to write sad songs on my own, I think it was a therapy piece. Always scary to take those songs out of my bedroom and into the real world.”

“I wrote it with an artist called Evelina and Sophie Ackroyd, who is a writer producer. We all got invited to this Women Make Music Spotify event, and when we were there, we were just kind of like 'we should do a session'. We all knew each other, but we'd never worked together. We put the session in and this was the first thing that we did. It's interesting because Evelina is more of a R&B writer, and I think there's elements of that in the melody that I perhaps wouldn't have written myself. It's got elements from different genres and I don't normally write with people that don't just do indiepop. So it was interesting to write with somebody from a different genre, which is the first time I've done that.”
