  • Astrid S Releases New Album “Joyride”

  • Norwegian singer-songwriter Astrid S released her sophomore album “Joyride” on May 24, 2024 via Universal and Island Records.

It is her first album in four years since the 2020 debut album “Leave It Beautiful”.
Also, the album follows up the EP “Felt Cute Might Delete Later”, which was released in April 2023 as a warm up to the new album.
The album comprises a 9-track, produced by Astrid S, Jack Schrepferman, John Mark Nelson, Jonas Jurström, JT Daly, Matias Téllez, The Nocturns and Oliver Lundström.
The idea of recurring car references as the framework for the album was born out of Astrid's childhood memories and the many car trips through the Norwegian countryside with her father growing up.

Astrid S said of the album, “The pieces fell into place after I wrote the first song, Joyride. It's a road trip album and a tribute to childhood memories and all the hours in the car with dad.”
  • She continued, “A collection of songs inspired by many roadtrips and the music I would listen to in the car with my dad growing up. And my never ending failing love life. And friends who part ways. And falling in love! And everything in between.”

She added, “We worked more playfully in the studio. Some songs were created after impulsive jam sessions.”

  • Astrid S explained about some tracks for the album.

    “First to Go”
“Since I debuted as an artist when I was 16, various people have tried to tell me what to do and who to be. It's about the liberating realization when I realized I'm not dependent on anyone else, and how liberating it is to let someone move on. And best of all: I'M NOT MAD, I'M THE HAPPIEST I'VE EVER BEEN! Had SO much fun writing this in Nashville.”

    “Two Hands”
“I think of this song as a letter to my future girlfriends. I have good and bad sides, with ups and downs, but I promise it will be fun. I've come to love that somewhat cheesy Pinterest quote; I know I'm a handful, but that's why you got two hands.”

    “Oh Emma”
“I've moved around a lot since I was 15, so I've had a lot of short friendships in my formative years, which have been difficult to maintain. Oh Emma is a song about growing apart. It happens to everyone - sometimes it just feels like people gradually disappear from your life without you noticing. One day you wake up and wonder what happened? It is nostalgic and reminiscent of the past. There are many changes you go through in life, but the ones that hurt the most are the ones you couldn't predict.”

    “Hot Fever Dream”
“Hot Fever Dream is one of my favorite songs on my album! It's the perfect song to manifest a summer fling ;) It's about being so hooked/in love with someone that you can't wait to sleep so you can dream about that person. Hope you like it!!”
