  • Becky Hill Teams Up With Self Esteem for New Song “True Colours”

  • British singer-songwriter Becky Hill teamed up with British singer-songwriter Self Esteem to release a new song “True Colours” on May 24, 2024.

The song is the sixth single off of her upcoming sophomore album “Believe Me Now?”, which is set to be released on May 31, 2024.
Becky Hill met Self Esteem at the 2024 Brit Awards, whom she asked to sing the new song's second verse.
Becky Hill tells her experience of sexual assault nine years ago in the track, and it is undeniably her most personal song yet.
The track was written by Jack Patterson, Lauren Amber Aquilina, Mark Ralph, Rebecca Claire Hill, and Uzoechi Emenike. Produced by Mark Ralph.

Becky Hill told Self Esteem about the sexual assault in an interview with Glamour Magazine, “I had to keep it to myself because I knew none of the friends I had at the time would believe me. With rape and sexual assault, the numbers on reporting are so low that I wanted to be able to sit with my future children and if, God forbid, the same happens to them, say, 'You know what? When I was your age, I went to the police and reported it, and it was really powerful for me.'"
  • She continued, “I didn't want it to come across sad, or vulnerable. I wanted it to be angry. I wanted to make a real angry bop. I'm hoping that things will begin to change a bit, and people will be able to talk about this stuff more openly without a degree of shame on themselves, and with the onus back on the perpetrators.”

  • Self Esteem said, “We're aligned in wanting to talk about this subject matter, but not seem sad and deflated. It's anger, and then healing, and you don't hear that story much. So many people I know have been through it in one form or another, and to paint it as a really sad thing that ruins your life, and that's the end... It can't be that. It can't be the end of the story.”

The new album comprises a 15-track, featuring collaborations with Chase & Status, Lewis Thompson, RILEASA, Self Esteem, and Sonny Fodera.

Becky Hill said of the album, “This album has been a joy to make! it's come at a point in my life where I'm leaving my turbulent twenties behind me and entering my thirties as a more confident, knowledgeable & self-assured woman and this album really reflects that. I wanted this body of work to be deep rooted in dance music but have my story telling song writing flowing throughout, describing tales of loneliness, togetherness, love and betrayal. I can't wait to share it with the world.”
