  • Amyl and The Sniffers Premieres Two New Songs “U Should Not Be Doing That” & “Facts” on BBC Radio 1

  • Australian punk rock band Amyl and The Sniffers, consisting of Amy Taylor (vocals), Bryce Wilson (drums), Declan Martens (guitar) and Gus Romer (bass), premiered two new songs “U Should Not Be Doing That” and “Facts” on BBC Radio 1's New Music Show with Jack Saunders.

Two songs are their first music in three years since the 2021 album “Comfort to Me”.
Both songs were written by Amy Taylor, Bryce Wilson, Declan Mehrtens, and Gus Romer. Produced by Nick Launay.
The accompanying music video for “U Should Not Be Doing That” was directed John Angus Stewart, who filmed in Los Angeles.

The band lead singer Amy Taylor said of the songs, “Lyrically they’re both self-explanatory. U should not be doing that makes me laugh, but It’s also in a way poking fun at the shock that people still feel at a little bit of skimpy clothing, and the bitchy high school way that the music community still is (yes I’m talking to you random 40 year old metalheads sitting around a table doing lines and bitching about a 28 year old chick in a band for wearing shorts and “selling out”) but it mainly makes me laugh. It’s unconscious and meant nothing at the time of writing it but now I think it’s a comedic way of rubbing the dog's nose in its own dog piss after it wee’d on your favourite rug or something.”
  • Declan Martens told Jack Saunders about the songs, “Yeah, it was scary at first. We were kind of a bit unrehearsed in writing new music. But we got there in the end. I think we've done a good job.”

Amy Taylor continued, “Just do it. Just put your head down and do it. I think lots of it will have different methods, but my way is just you can't go around it. You can't go under it. You just gotta go through it. So I'm always kind of scribbling away and writing stuff and coming up with ideas and if I reach a wall I just kept pushing through and nothing. Not really let anything stop me.”

  • The band recently moved to Los Angeles from Melbourne. She added, “Yeah, we have we're living over here now which is super exciting and also perfect for the songs. And the lyrics are talking about being over in LA. And that's where we also filmed the clip which is perfect and first time we filmed the clip overseas.”
