  • ratbag Drops New Live Video for “dead end kids” from eugene's junkyard

  • New Zealand singer-songwriter Sophie Brown, aka ratbag dropped a new live video for “dead end kids” directed by ratbag and Oscar Keys om May 12, 2024.

The song is featured on her debut EP “why aren't you laughing?”, which was released last December.
In addition to this video, she released the live videos for “rot in love” and “rats in my wall” as a live series, so far.
The track was written by Harry Charles, and Sophie Brown. Produced by ratbag, Timon Martin, Harry Charles.

ratbag told DORK abut the song, “I wanted to start and end the EP on a mistake. 'dead end kids' starts with a guitar riff I recorded in my room. While recording, I dropped my pick and fucked up the take. And at the very end of rats in my walls, I play the wrong chord on the organ. I kept my frustrated grunt in there, too. I don't know why I like mistakes, but I just do. I thought it would be a nice way to go about my first-ever EP.”
  • The debut EP comprises 4-track, produced by ratbag, Timon Martin, and Harry Charles.
On the EP, she performed with fictional bandmates, consisting of Deemo (on the bass), Fritz (on keys), Eugene (on drums) and Slug (on guitar).

ratbag said of the EP, “why aren't you laughing? is your invitation into my world. I've opened the door just a crack, enough for you to see the beginning of what's going on. These four songs had been brewing in a big ol' bowl of soup in my head and are now ready to be eaten, by you.

She continued, “It feels quite scary to hand over my songs, like I'm handing pieces of me to the world, but I think it's equally as exciting. I hope you're hungry.”
  • She shared on social media, “May 12th (PDT). We’re hitting the dunes, be sure to bring sunblock, the sun is fierce and eugene takes his steak rare. As always, a signed copy of this poster will go to whichever one of you can offer him the strongest drink. See you there.”
