Real Estate Announces New Album “Daniel”, Shares New Song “Water Underground”
American indie rock band Real Estate, consisting of Martin Courtney (vocals/guitar), Alex Bleeker (bass), Matt Kallman (keyboards), Julian Lynch (lead guitar) and Sammi Niss (drums), has announced that their sixth studio album “Daniel” will be released on February 23, 2024.
It is their first album in four years since the 2020 album “The Main Thing”.
The band recoded a a 11-track with producer Daniel Tashian over nine days at RCA Studio A in Nashville.
From the album, the band released the first single called “Water Underground” on November 27, 2023.
The track was written by Real Estate and produced by Daniel Tashian.
“This song is about writing songs,” the band frontman Martin Courtney said of the song. “I think ‘Water Underground’ is like the unconscious, the mysterious part of your brain where creativity comes from. The constant flow of music in the back of your head. You get an idea while driving or walking the dog or something and you want to hold on to it.”- The accompanying music video was directed by Edmond Hawkins.
The video is and homage to beloved ’90s Nickelodeon series “The Adventures of Pete & Pete”, starring C. Maronna and Danny Tamberelli.
C. Maronna and Danny Tamberelli appeared on the music video, which was shot in the suburbs of Real Estate’s home state of New Jersey.
“New Jersey roots are hard to break,” Danny Tamberelli said of the video. “Julian, Alex and Martin all grew up one town away from me and were actually friends with the younger siblings of my friends from Ridgewood. They told me they even saw me perform at the local bandshell with some of those older siblings while I was in high school. The video brings it full circle and adding my dear old friends from the show into the fold really tied it all together.” -
The band shared on social media, “We recorded the album earlier this year in Nashville with Daniel Tashian producing. The idea was to distill the tunes to their essence, an exploration of the pop song form. 11 songs, 38 minutes. We are so so proud of it and can’t wait to share the rest.”
They continued, “The video for Water Underground is out today as well. It’s directed by Edmond Hawkins and it’s an homage to our favorite show growing up, The Adventures of Pete and Pete. Making this exact video has been an impossible dream of ours for years, we still can’t believe we actually made it. Major thanks to Daniel Tamberelli, Michael Maronna, and the show’s creators Will McRobb and Chris Viscardi for being open to the idea and for allowing us into their world. Huge honor!”
