Bonnie McKee Returns With New Song “SLAY”
Los Angeles-based singer-songwriter Bonnie McKee returned with a new song “SLAY” on June 28, 2023.
It is her first music in three years since the 2020 “Kick Your Shoes Off” from the musical TV “Royalties” soundtrack.
The song will appear on her upcoming second studio album, which is expected to be released in 2023.
The new album is her first body of work in 19 years since the 2019 debut album “Trouble”.
Bonnie McKee shared on social media, “Some things will haunt you. And this album was one of them. I locked it away for a decade thinking nobody wanted it, but that little voice inside me kept singing. And against literally everyone in the industry's advice, I said f*** it- Im putting it out. For you guys, for myself, and for anyone else who's waiting for permission to express themselves- this is it. Permission to SLAY! 🗡️💖”- Bonnie McKee wrote “SLAY” 10 years ago. Back in 2018, she told Chicago GoPride about the song in a interview, “I wrote that song when I was on Epic. It was supposed to the be the second single after “American Girl.” I went on tour with Karmin but then they pulled the single. It made me insecure about it. People know all the words just from YouTube videos and from performing it live, because I never released it. It is still at the top of my list. I love that song.”
She shared on social media, “10 years ago, I wrote a song about stepping into the light. And then I stayed in the shadows. But tonight, I'm ready 'SLAY' You gave me the courage to open the vault, brush off the dust, and let her shine- so thank you to all the fans who kept the spirit of SLAY alive and encouraged me along the way. This one's for you. 💖”.
