Bombay Bicycle Club Premieres New Song “My Big Day” on BBC Radio 1
London-based indie rock band Bombay Bicycle Club, consisting of Suren de Saram (drums), Jamie MacColl (guitar), Ed Nash (bass) and Jack Steadman (vocals/guitar), has announced their sixth studio album “My Big Day” will be released on October 20, 2023.
From the album, the band premiered the title track along with a music video on BBC Radio 1's Future Sounds with Clara Amfo.
The track was written by Bombay Bicycle Club. Produced by Jack Steadman
The band frontman Jack Steadman and guitarist Jamie MacColl told Clara Amfo about the song, “Couple years back, it was the first time ever we thought we've got like an already great record coming along. This is very strange hybrid of I'd say, Eminem and Psalm 41. It works we've realized the cause work perfectly into most 90s bangers. That's every pop punk hadn't come from the 90s we've like sung over this tune, and it's uncanny.”
They continued, “That's kind of what the song's about is like subverting the idea of like, a big day where you're meant to be out partying and doing crazy stuff. You just want to like shut the door, turn off your phone and just chill.”- The new album is their first body of work in three years since the 2020 album “Everything Else Has Gone Wrong”.
The album comprises 11-track, featuring guest appearances from Jay Som, Nilüfer Yanya, Damon Albarn, and Holly Humberstone.
The band said of the album in a statement, “Our sixth album, My Big Day, is now finished and we're getting ready to put it out into the world. We hope this album will surprise people. After nearly 20 years together, there is always a danger of falling into a comfort zone and we've pushed harder than usual against that on this record. We continue to make music together not only because of the deep connection we have to one another, but also because we believe something magical happens when we make music together.” -
They continued, “My Big Day is also a shared endeavour with old and new friends. It features Damon Albarn, Holly Humberstone, Jay Som and Nilüfer Yanya, along with a very surprising and frankly iconic guest we'll tell you about later in the summer. We also relied on Flyte, Rae Morris and Kawala to provide backing vocals on several songs and we are grateful to them for indulging us with last minute sessions. Finally, although Jack drove the production of this record, Paul Epworth and Ben Allen (who produced several songs on A Different Kind of Fix) produced a song each.”
The band added, “We could tell you more about the actual album but you'll have to wait until 20 October to hear for yourselves. You can preorder it now on our website. To make up for this very earnest post, please now go watch our new music video where Jack smokes a bong, Jamie pretends to shit himself, Suren lives out his childhood dream to be a TV weatherman, and Ed christens a portaloo.”
