The Japanese House Releases New Song “One for sorrow, two for Joni Jones”
British alt-pop singer-songwriter Amber Bain, aka The Japanese House released a new song “One for sorrow, two for Joni Jones” from her upcoming sophomore album “In the End It Always Does” on June 8, 2023.
The song is named after Amber Bain's dog, who is in turn named after Joni Mitchell.
The track was written by Amber Bain and Katie Gavin. Produced by The Japanese House and Chloe Kraemer.
“This is my favorite song, and I wrote it as a piece ages ago when I was playing the piano and [producer] Chloe would record me playing the piano loads with my dog on my lap,” Amber Bain said of the song. “We sat on the music for ages then Katie from MUNA came down to the studio and put the rambling lyrics over music in a Joni Mitchell kind of way. I'm trying to encapsulate that feeling, a sort of ode to that feeling when Emma Thompson stands there and cries when she's holding the CD in Love Actually. The lyrics are about the confirmation that my relationship was dead, and it's the only song I've ever cried during the vocal take which has never happened before.”- e6FWhirr0pE

Amber Bain shared on social media, “Occasionally, I'll write a song that breaks the bad news to myself. This was one of those. It's the saddest song I've ever written (which, let's face the facts, is saying something lol) and I can still rarely get through it without choking up. There's a certain kind of sadness to feeling like everything is coming to an end, but there's also a poignance to knowing that after a while, everything will be ok; the sadness will fade, life will move on, and really - day to day - you'll just be walking in the park with your little dog just the same as you were. Shout out to Joni jones for being my absolute Constant Queen. Also shout out to Katie Gavin and Chloe Kraemer for one of the most magical studio experiences I've ever had when we were writing this. Love you both xxxx”
The new album is set to be released on June 30, 2023.-
