Mike Ruby Returns With New Song “girls that aren't my girlfriend”
Toronto-based singer-songwriter Mike Ruby returned with a new song “girls that aren't my girlfriend” on June 2, 2023.
It is his first own music in three years since the 2020 EP “You Wrote These Songs”.
Mike Ruby shared on social media, “Extra happy to be releasing music after a LONG pandemic recess. Hope you enjoy the music, and spread the love if you dig it.”
The song is first single off of his upcoming sophomore EP, which is expected to be released this fall.
The track was inspired by the dissolution of a relationship Mike Ruby thought to be the one. After taking the time to move on, he found that talking to women in a romantic way still felt weird.
It was written by Mike Ruby and David Arkwright.
Mike Ruby said of the song, “I was in a long relationship, one that I thought was THE lifelong relationship, so when it ended it took a lot of time to get over. When I had taken the time I needed, talking to girls that weren't her still felt weird. I opened up to David Arkwright about how I was feeling and we created the melodies together.”- He continued, “Naturally the song comes with a tinge of sadness, but overall optimism. I wanted something dancy in the chorus, so he sprinkled the perfect synth in there to make it feel somewhat retro, which is essentially modern these days.”
