Rachel Platten Returns With New Song “Girls”
American singer-songwriter Rachel Platten returned with a new song “Girls” along with a music video on May 12, 2023.
It is her first music in three years since the 2020 single “Soldiers”.
The song will appear on her forthcoming album, which is expected to be released later this year.
The track was written by Rachel Platten, Sean Myer, Ferras Alqaisi, and Meghan Kabir.
Produced by Rachel Platten, Jason Evigan and Gian Stone. The accompanying video was directed by Max Jeffrey.
Rachel Platten said of the song, “I was missing my babies while at a recording session and really wanted to write about what it meant to me to be a mom. I started noodling on the piano and humming a melody. I look at songs as if I get to pull a star out of the sky and that is how this felt for me with this song.”
She continued, “I played it for my sister and she really inspired me to finish it. My parents even contributed to the lyrics. My hope is that you can feel the love in it. It's in 432 Hz, so if all that people say about 432 is true - it should resonate.”- Rachel Platten shared on social media, “As this song is about to enter the world, i want to take a moment to acknowledge my brilliant and talented friends (and family!!) behind it. The song first came whispering to me as a little trickle of an idea (a purposeful distraction from another song that we couldn't solve. Like a palate cleanser. I started playing these classical sounding chords and humming a melody not knowing where i was going and the amazing Sean, Megan and Ferras and i in 10 minutes did a quick dive into the emotion of a song to my girls and got the bulk of the verse. Months later, I showed that verse idea to my sister Melanie, who has always had an ear for which of my songs are the truest, and she immediately said 'let's finish this!!!'. Over that holiday visit i cried in a bathtub as the chorus came to me, it was so beautiful. I showed she and my mom and we played with some more of it. Then finally, back to Sean, who sat patiently with me weeks that winter as we fought for that second verse and bridge and, which i think really makes the Song. Sooo many beautifully produced versions later, i still didn't think I'd gotten it. Enter my absolutely brilliant producers (much much more on them to come!!), Jason and Gian, who knew just what it needed. Me, alone, on a piano recording it exactly as I'd written it. In Nashville, i was exhausted it was the last day we had at the studio but they believed i could get it and so i fought for it. The version we went with i did all at once, At the same time, no click, no auto tune no anything. They helped me find this sound that i always knew was in there but couldn't ever find. Simply by being me at my most raw. Then the brilliant Manny Marroquin mixed it and brought out the perfect tone in my voice.”
