Ashnikko Announces Debut Album “WEEDKILLER”, Premieres New Song “Worms” on BBC Radio 1
London-based American singer-songwriter Ashnikko announced her highly-anticipated debut album “WEEDKILLER” would be released on June 2, 2023.
The album contains 13-track, featuring guest appearances from Daniela Lalita and Ethel Cain.
“WEEDKILLER” is the story of a fae civilization occupied and destroyed by machines that feed on organic matter where the faerie protagonist seeks revenge by becoming part machine, a poetic commentary on environmental disaster and the rapid evolution of technology.
Ashnikko said of the am in a statement, “My bioluminescent heart is glowing. My post-apocalyptic fae world is here for you to journey into. My wings have been ripped out, but I've built them anew using WEEDKILLER machine parts. I am the one sent here to eliminate you, WEEDKILLER.”
Also Ashnikko shared on social media, “i can't believe this is happening. my debut album is finally coming. two years ago, I wrote a short story that has expanded to become this album. since then, I've been pouring my heartblood into conceptualizing, myth-making, and lore-building with some of my closest friends and collaborators. thank you for being here to step into my post-apocalyptic dystopian fae world.”- From the album, she premiered a new song “Worms” on BBC Radio 1's Future Sounds with Clara Amfo on March3, 2023.
The song is the second single off, following “You Make Me Sick!” released last month.
The track was written by Ashton Nicole Casey, Dylan Brady, and Slinger. Produced by Dylan Brady and Slinger.
Ashnikko told Clara Amfo about the song, “I like to switch it up. I don't like to be too predictable, and make little songs about the apocalypse. I'm definitely like a doomsday prepper mentally, physically, I don't have the time. I'm touring so much that I don't have time to stock up and create a bunker, but if I was home more, I would. Give me good give me 10 years and I really I swear to God I Well.” -
She continued about the album, “It's been like two years since I put out anything. And the last thing I put out was a mixtape which semantics I don't mixtape album. This is the debut album because it feels the most fully formed. It's like half concept album. It's called weed killer. It's based on a short story that I wrote a couple years. ago, about a post apocalyptic say world. Basically, the beautiful Fae forests are destroyed by these AI robots called weed killers and they feed on bio matter, so they completely flatten the land and it's just this desolate, barren wasteland.” - source : BBC Radio 1
