Callum Beattie Releases New Album “Vandals”
Scottish singer-songwriter Callum Beattie released his sophomore album “Vandals” on February 24, 2023 via 3 Beat Records.
It is his first album in three years since the 2020 debut album “People Like Us”.
Callum Beattie said, “I think it's my best work to date, and I poured my heart and soul into it.”
The album comprises 13-track, produced by Chris Marshall. Written by Callum Beattie, Jimmy Sims, Timothy James Hayward Ross, The Nocturns, Steve Chrisanthou, Jim Duguid, Stephen Andrew Booker, Jamie N Commons, Jason Tucker, Nairn Milne, Johnny Madden, Eryn Rae, Gus Harrower, David Rogers, Christopher Marshall, Jamie Holmes, Christopher Cook, John Ryan, Wayne Hector, Joe Spargur, and Nate Cyphert.
Callum Beattie said of the album, “I grew up in a post Thatcher Britain, in a fairly rough part of Scotland, raised by my dad, and experienced the poverty and roughness of those times first hand. Culturally, it was a very specific period in history, where you could almost feel the class divide on the local streets. I feel strongly that we are moving towards a culturally similar period in history.”
He added about the artwork of the album with photographer Gavin Watson, “We chose to take a different approach to the artwork and have used an iconic photo by a very iconic photographer called Gavin Watson. Gavin was the inspiration behind Shane Meadows' 'This Is England,' and working with him was a dream come true.”- Callum Beattie shared on social media, When I was at school, the careers officer asked me what I wanted to do when I left. When I said 'I'm going to be a rock star, and play on big stages' she rolled her eyes disapprovingly, completely dismissing my dream as a 'fantasy'. Today, my second album 'VANDALS' is released, and we are playing to literally tens of thousands of people this year. I might not be the fully fledged rock star quite yet, but I feel very privileged to be able to live out my dreams, for that I'm grateful every single day.”
He continued, “As well as thanking all you guys for supporting me at every opportunity, I also want to say that this isn't really a 'Callum Beattie' album, it's a band album, and I could NEVER have made it without the wonderful support of my immediate circle and trusted friends. Dave Rogers, Johnny Madden, Eryn Rae, Nairn Milne, Jason Tucker, Gus Harrower - I love every one of you and can't imagine life without you. This record is just as much yours as it is mine.” - source : Apple Music
