  • Janelle Monáe Premieres New Song “Float” featuring Seun Kuti & Egypt 80 on BBC Radio 1

  • American singer-songwriter Janelle Monáe premiered a new song “Float” on BBC Radio 1's Future Sounds with Clara Amfo.

She teamed up with Nigerian musician Seun Kuti and his band Egypt 80 on the track.
The song will appear on her upcoming fourth studio album.
The new album is her first project since the 2018 “Dirty Computer”.
The track was written by Janelle Monáe Robinson, Nathaniel Irvin III, Nana Kwabena Tuffuor, and Jarrett Goodly. Produced by Nate “Rocket” Wonder.
Janelle Monáe told about her new music since the previous album, “I think in a sense, what I like that even just that album (“Dirty Computer”), I've grown so much. It's like, I don't need to explain. I don't need to even explain to myself, it's just kind of about letting go and giving myself permission to to walk lighter, you know, to walk lighter so that that can slow into the greatest version of myself.”
  • She continued, “I mean, I think I am in such a present stage in my life, like actively being present. And so I think I'm at this time in my life where I'm finding the beauty in even even moments that could be considered trials.”
She added, “I guess very excited about you know, the song being out and new music and I hope that when people fill it, like they really really do let things go and heal. I can't say the name of the album just yet. but I will say that I had like the most pleasure.”

  • Janelle Mon shared on social media, “Ahhhh it feels good to be releasing music!! Sending love and waves to everyone who takes the time to listen! I pray you hold these words close to your heart cause they came straight from mine. Thank you to the incomparable Seun Kuti and Egypt 80 for blessing this song. Thank you to my fam The Floaters (Nate Wonderful, Sensei Bueno, nanakwabena for blessing this song n' riding this wave right with me.”
