  • First Aid Kit Releases New Album “Palomino”: Streaming

  • Swedish folk duo First Aid Kit, consisting of Johanna Söderberg and Klara Söderberg, released their fifth studio album “Palomino” along with a new music video for title track on November 4, 2022.

It is their first album in four years since the 2018 album “Ruins”.
The album comprises 11-track, produced by by Daniel Bengtson, featuring seven brand new songs as well as lead single “Out of My Head”, “A Feeling That Never Came”, “Turning Onto You” and “Angel”.
The duo wrote and recorded the album at Studio Rymden in their home country of Sweden. The album finds them turning to music with a sense of optimism as an escape from the dark times of the past few years and coming into their own as individuals, sisters, and a band.
The duo said, “Here it is. Our fifth album Palomino. Straight from our hearts to yours. We are immensely proud of this record and we had such a joyous experience making it. To us, it symbolizes freedom and moving forward. Like the imagery of the Palomino riding off into the unknown, we hope these songs will give you inspiration and solace wherever they find you.”
  • First Aid Kit explained of the album, “This is the first record we've recorded in Sweden since we made our debut album The Big Black & The Blue 12 years ago! We worked with Swedish producer Daniel Bengtson at his lovely studio Studio Rymden in Stockholm. It was such a fun experience. We really let the recording take time, we didn't want to rush it.
The duo continued, “The songs were mostly written during the pandemic. In such dark times, music felt like an escape from all the horrible things going on in the world. We wanted this album to feel more upbeat and cheerful than our previous album Ruins, which was a break-up record. It's probably our most pop sounding record yet. We took inspiration from all over the place – old acts such as Fleetwood Mac, Carole King, Tom Petty, T Rex, Elton John but also Angel Olsen, Whitney, and Big Thief. The title is a reference to freedom, learning how to stand on your own two feet. Growing older and feeling more comfortable in your own skin. Riding off on a Palomino!”

  • The duo explained of some tracks for the album.

    “Out of My Head”
“We wrote this song last year together with songwriter and producer Björn Yttling. It was the first time we wrote for First Aid Kit with someone else and it was very inspiring. The song was written in the spur of the moment, almost like a stream of consciousness. It's about feeling stuck inside your own thoughts and desperately wanting to escape. We produced the song with Daniel Bengtson in Stockholm. It has a bit of a different sound from our previous songs. We wanted the production to feel like an old rock song from the 80s. We were inspired by Fleetwood Mac, Kate Bush and Tom Petty. This is one of our favorite songs we've ever written, we're so proud of it.”

    “Angel”
“It feels special to release a song after such a long hiatus. Our new track 'Angel' – a hopeful tune for these crazy times about accepting other people even if you don't always see eye to eye. It's also about being kinder to yourself. We wanted it to feel really big, but vulnerable at the same time, something you can cry to and dance to as well.”

    “Turning Onto You”
“A sweet love song. When recording this we wanted to achieve that old school 'country soul' sound. It was truly a team effort with an amazing brass section by Goran Kajfês and Per Johansson, a laid-back groove by Moussa Fadera, and killer George Harrison-slide guitar by Daniel Bengtson.”

    “A Feeling That Never Came”
“Just like the title suggests, 'A Feeling That Never Came' is a song about emptiness. Those times in your life when you expect to feel joy or sorrow, but instead you just feel numb. This was the last song we recorded for the album – originally intended more as a b-side, it has quickly become one of our favourites. We feel like the softer, quieter vocals married so well with the Marc Bolan-inspired guitars and groove. It's a soft quiet banger.”
