Leah Kate Releases New EP “Alive and Unwell”: Streaming
American singer-songwriter Leah Kate released a new EP “Alive and Unwell” on October 28, 2022.
It is her first EP under her new label 10k Projects.
The EP comprises 8-track, produced by Andrew Goldstein, Mike Wise and Nick Ruth.
Leah Kate shared on social media, “this year has been the craziest journey for me. I lived out my wildest dreams while hitting my lowest of lows at the same time. alive and unwell is an 8 song journey of how to navigate the not so perfect times. ive spent the last year working on this and I have never been so proud of something I've created. so beyond grateful for everyone who listens and supports me, and can relate to these songs that ive poured my heart into.”
She made the EP to take a year and a half. Leah Kate told V MAGAZINE, “It's been like a year and a half in the making. It's been a long writing process, but projects take so long. I'll write for a year, and then it takes months to decide which songs were going to make the cut and which fit the vibe the best. So it's definitely no overnight process. It's been over a year and it was very difficult to choose the songs that we're going to make it.”- She continued, “It kind of started with "10 Things I Hate About You," and I found that my sound was changing like a year ago–now, I'm more into rock-driven pop anthems. The EP is really my journey through the year, going through the ups and downs. It's about really living your best life but also being miserable at the same time. Last year, I felt like I was living my dream and had all these exciting things happen–I had a hit song, and everything was just going crazy. But at the same time, shit was hitting the fan, and I felt like there was no better way to phrase it than "alive and unwell." So the EP goes through that journey of life and relationships–being at your highest but also your lowest.”
Leah Kate explained of some tracks for the EP.
“Alive And Unwell” via V MAGAZINE
“The song is about, obviously, being hot all the time, wanting to be your best self at the end of the day, and fuck everyone. But it is also a song about a relationship and wanting to make someone regret leaving you or make them miss what they ever had. It's about taking your power back and I love that.”
“10 Things I Hate About You”
“I was not over this guy and I was like, 'I need to get over him.' [But] I could only really remember the good parts of our relationship, [so] I was like, 'OK, Leah, time to remember the bad parts,' because there are way more bad parts than good! I started writing this list of everything I hated about him, and I was like, 'Oh, this is kind of a fun song idea.'… It started out as, like, 100 things, and then I narrowed it down to 10 things.” -
“Monster”
“This song is one of my favorites and is for anyone who's ever wanted to take back their power in a relationship or situation. Whether it's from a toxic ex, friend, lover, family member or hater on the internet. I used to have trouble standing up for myself and speaking up. Monster was written from a sad place, but I hope it inspires you to enter your bad bitch era and to take your power back. I hope it starts your journey from broken to powerful. I think we can all relate. I hope u love it.”
“Hot All The Time”
“'Hot All the Time'. A feeling I've been wanting to capture in a song for a while now… of wanting to feel hot, your best self, and good in your skin, inside and out to make someone realize what they are missing. This is my favorite song I've ever made and I hope u love it as much as I do. Thank you Sarah Hudson, Andrew Goldstein, Alna, James Abrahart for making this with me.”
Leah Kate “Life Sux”
“I started to get trolled on the internet and experienced a lot of bullying online. I wrote 'Life Sux' to remind myself that when people try to bring you down, that you should ignore the haters, focus on the good things around you and just enjoy life!”
