British singer-songwriter Jacob Collier has released his first live album “Piano Ballads (Live From The Djesse World Tour 2022)”.
The album comprises 11-track, including covers of Queen's “Somebody To Love”, ABBA's “Dancing Queen”, The Beatles' “Let It Be”, Bee Gees' “How Deep Is Your Love”, James Taylor's “Carolina In My Mind”, Elvis Presley's “Can't Help Falling In Love”, Dougie MacLean's “Caledonia”, Ella Fitzgerald's “Every Time We Say Goodbye”, Frankie Valli's “Can't Take My Eyes Off You” and Patti Page's “Tennessee Waltz”.
Also, the album features guest appearances from Alita Moses and Stian Carstensen.
He recorded the album during his “The Djesse World Tour 2022” in Los Angels, Fort Lauderdale, Cambridge, Stockholm, Charlotte, Oslo, London, Lisbon, Glasgow, and Columbus.
Each night, at the halfway point of the show, he'd sit down at his Steinway piano and perform a reimagined version of a popular song.
In each case, the performance was largely improvised and he had played the song for the first time in public.
This performances also involved audience participation, with he using the crowd as a multi-part choir.
Jacob Collier said of the album, “Ever since I can remember, I have derived a vast amount of comfort and joy from sitting at the piano and improvising. I have long dreamed of sharing an album that lives in that world. This year, I set myself the challenge of playing a spontaneous rendition of a different song every night on tour - with the help of my extraordinary musical audience. These 11 are amongst my favourite postcards. I'm so excited to share them with you all!”- Photo by Mogli Maureal
