Sylvie Releases New Song “Dull The Shimmer”
London-based singer-songwriter Sylvie released a new song “Dull The Shimmer” on August 19, 2022 via Sadboy Records.
The song will appear on her upcoming debut EP “Particles of Paranoia”, which is expecterd to be released this fall.
It was written and produced by Sylvie.
“I wrote “Dull The Shimmer” about being put back on antidepressants, feeling numb amidst the irony of a so-called 'happy pill' being a bitter pill to swallow,” Sylvie said of the song. “In the UK, the sad truth within mental healthcare is that we have been made to feel bad for questioning being prescribed antidepressants, even ridiculed for any ongoing issues that arise due to them. This treatment option alone usually isn't a foolproof cure for mental illness.”
She continued, “'Dull The Shimmer' reflects on this sad truth, using harmonies and multiple vocal tracks to create an intense and slightly chaotic conversation with not only myself, but the girls in similar situations to me that I have spent a lot of time with.”- She added, “The chorus harmonies feel like they take a leap up, into “Dim the sparkles dull…” and then are brought straight back down with the rest of the track and heavy bass. This isn't a happy song, but listening back I know that I can and should trust myself. I can actually take control of certain things in my life. There's a sense of relief in knowing I was able to turn those feelings into art and in turn, move on.”
