The Kooks Drops New Music Video for “Cold Heart” from New Album “10 Tracks to Echo in the Dark”
British alt-tock band The Kooks, consisting of Luke Pritchard (vocals/rhythm guitar), Hugh Harris (lead guitar) and Alexis Nunez (drums), has dropped a new music video for “Cold Heart” from their sixth studio album “10 Tracks to Echo in the Dark”.
The video was directed by Polocho. The track was written and produced by Luke Pritchard and Tobias Kuhn.
Luke Pritchard said of the song, “Very excited to drop 'cold heart' out into the world this week. The song is about reaching forgiveness and humour when you finally have some perspective. At the end of the track we bring in the incredibly talented kids choir to represent the inner child talking to our future selves. Musically it was fun to incorporate some new progressive sounds to the mix but with the DNA of the band we've always had. We wanna make people dance with this one. We've all Been there with someone who is compelling but unreachable, hope you all dig the track!”- CMVwC2vTMWw
The new album was released on July 22, 2022. It is their first album in four years.
The album comprises 10-track, including two 3-track EPs and four new songs.
The band wrote and recorded some material with Tobias Kuhn in Berlin.
“I started going to Berlin for three or four days at a time. I was really affected by Brexit and I wanted to make a bit of a statement by creating a European record,” Luke Pritchard explained. “We're a European band, we practically lived out there and have so much love for Europe, so we wanted to keep that connection.”
“A lot of songwriters have found refuge in Berlin”, he continued. “It's a free place, it's not so consumed by commerciality. I was looking for something a bit rawer, a little bit more minimal. Sometimes you just pick up these nuances somewhere. It's not necessarily the people, it's the place.”-
But the band had to return home to the UK to finish the writing sessions due to the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. The band continued to recorded over Zoom until Tobias was able to fly out to London.
“I really hope that sense of inner peace comes across,” Luke Pritchard said. “I really want to have fun with my life at this point. But also – it's kinda a reflection of what I was feeling in real-time in a pre-and-post COVID world. I was reading a lot of sci-fi – like Philip K. Dick, Azimov and surreal stuff like Boris Vian – which is obviously really distracting from what's going on in the world, but helped me be imaginative with the songs.”
He added, “In the pandemic I had a good amount of time to look over our albums and feel proper proud and lucky. This album is a real thank you to our fans for sticking by us for so long, we hope you love it”
