Yify Zhang Returns With New Song “Puppet”
Austin-based alt-pop singer-songwriter Yify Zhang returned with a new song “Puppet” alongside a music video on March 11, 2022.
The song is her first music in two years since the 2020 single “Light”.
It was written by Yify Zhang. Produced Julie Kathryn (I Am Snow Angel), Patrick Woerner, and Yify Zhang.
Yify Zhang said of the song, “Through writing it, refining it through live performance, and recording it, the song ended up taking on a bigger meaning - it is about someone coming into her full power, regardless of anyone else's input. Puppet is an anthem to living life authentically, without cowering to the fear upsetting others."
She continued, “Sonically, the song feels like a lyric driven singer songwriter tracked layered over aggressive and cinematic electronic beats. I wanted this body of work (three upcoming songs) to feel drastically different from my previous work, while retaining the cinematic feel. I wanted songs to be more uptempo and percussion to be thicker and more aggressive.”- Photo by Shervin Lainez
