  • Charli XCX Performs “Beg for You” & “Baby” on Saturday Night Live

  • British singer-songwriter Charli XCX appeared on Saturday Night Live to perform “Beg for You” and “Baby”.

She was originally set to appear with Caroline Polachek and Christine And The Queens on the long-running show last December, but her appearance was cancelled at the last minute due to COVID.
“Beg for You” was released back in January, featuring Japanese singer-songwriter Rina Sawayama.
This time, she performed the song without Rina Sawayama. Charli XCX said of the song, “It feels to me like one of those songs that comes on at the height of a party where you are a little bit [fucked] up, you maybe want to cry, but you also want to dance. When I was driving through L.A. listening to this beat for the first time, I felt a real sense of euphoria - but also this quite nostalgic thing. Because it's a garage beat, it reminded me of being at home in the U.K., at a house party with my friends who I've known since I was 12 years old.”

“Baby” was released on March 3. She told Zane Low of Apple Music 1, “This song, it was kind of the foundation of the vibe of the album. It's probably the most sexy song I've ever made. It's about sex and sexuality and having good sex and just feeling yourself essentially. I know that that's the tone. I knew that that was the tone I wanted to carry across for the entire record. This kind of hyper-sexualized, feminine power zone was where I was feeling myself going, and “Baby” was the genesis of this.”
Both songs will appear on her upcoming fifth studio album “Crash”, which is set to be released on March 18, 2022.
