Iris Gold Releases New Song “Crushed Velvet”
London-based singer-songwriter Iris Gold has released a new song “Crushed Velvet” along with a music video.
The song is the fourth single from her upcoming sophomore album “Girl Pick Up Your Drum”. The track will be featured in a Sportmaster campaign in Denmark.
It was written by Iris Gold, Mercedes Seecoomar, and David A. Stewart, who also produced the track. The video was directed by Franck Lahoui.
The track is inspired by Prince. She recorded it at Bay Street Studios in the Caribbean.
Iris Gold said of the song, “The first time I saw Prince in concert he blew my mind, his husky low voice, his falsetto, his dance moves, his band and the way he made me feel… like he was talking directly to me in between songs… was out of this world. I was telling Dave about it and he said 'let's write a song about that experience and the way it made me feel', I had a huge crush on Prince “crushed like velvet”.
Producer David Stewart said, “Iris and I are both massive Prince Fans and when she told me about the first Prince concert she attended, I asked her everything about that experience. Then we put it into a song split into two sections: the A section like a rush of adrenaline and the B section a cool Prince groove.”- source : Apple Music
