Denzel Curry Premieres New Song “Zatoichi” featuring slowthai on BBC Radio 1
American rapper Denzel Curry premiered a New Song “Zatoichi” featuring British rapper slowthai on BBC Radio 1's Future Sounds with Jack Saunders.
The song will appear on his upcoming fifth studio album “Melt My Eyez, See Your Future”.
It was written by Denzel Curry, Powers Pleasant, Jonathan Birkner and R. Spencer. Produced by Powers Pleasant and Jonnywood.
The accompanying music video was directed by Adrian Villagomez. The track is named after the Japanese film character Zatoichi.
Denzel Curry told Jack Saunders about the song, “Of course, I'm creating my own thing. That's what the whole album is like pretty much about so when it came down to Zatoichi and creating this process, you know, I wanted to experiment with different genres, neo soul, jazz, traditional hip hop, drum and bass was wonderful. So I'm a huge fan of Goldie. So of course, I have to put this on record.”
He continued, “When I was planning the album, I had several names that I wanted to put as a track name. I have a deep fascination for Samurais and stuff like that. So Zatoichi is a perfect name to put as a title.”- He said of the collaboration with slowthai, “Me and Tyron (slowthai's real name) first met the same night Drake dropped 'Duffy freestyle'. And we was working on a song called 'Psycho'. So we go to the studio and then I went inside the booth. 'Psycho', I just freestyle the whole thing. And then I got to go and that's how me and so Tyron first met. Then over time me and him just started kicking it like he came to LA and we did the video for 'Psycho' and eventually we started like being on each other setlist in Australia and just started kicking it from there and just became one of my closest arms.”
