World Surf League: Stephanie Gilmore Wins Maui Women's Pro at Honolua Bay in Hawaii
Maui Women's Pro finals day, 6-time World Champ Stephanie Gilmore (AUS) took her second victory of 2017 season.
After 2017's World Title decision, Stephanie Gilmore battled against a new World Champion Tyler Wright (AUS) in Semifinal and earned 9.77 points with her first ride in beginning of the Heat. Finally she defeated Tyler Wright with a total of 15.87 points.
Malia Manuel (HAW) took down Bronte Macaulay (AUS), who defeated 3-time World Champ Carissa Moore (HAW) in Quarterfinal.
Malia Manuel advanced to the final, this marks her best result of 2017 season.
In the Final, Malia Manuel led the Heat with 7.30 points ride, but she struggled to catch waves to catch waves in half way of the Heat.
While, Stephanie Gilmore showcased 3 times over 6 points rides and earned 8.53 points on the last wave. Eventually, she made a comeback to win.
Maui Women's Pro winner Stephanie Gilmore said;
"Just for the confidence and everything. I always have such great surfs against Tyler. She always pushes me and makes me feel so nervous...I had to win that one."
Runner-up Malia Manuel said;
"When I came back [from injury], I tried to not have too high of expectations so I would not be disappointed. But, this is a great stepping stone. I wish this year wasn't over already."- Maui Women's Pro Final Results:
