World Surf League: Cascais Women's Pro Kicks Off at Cascais in Portugal
The 8th Stop on WSL Women's Championship, Cascais Women's Pro kicked off at Cascais in Portugal in three-to-four foot waves on September 27, 2017.
On opening day, Lakey Peterson (USA), Carissa Moore (HAW), Sally Fitzgibbons (AUS), Courtney Conlogue (USA), Tatiana Weston-Webb (HAW) and Silvana Lima (BRA) advanced direct to Round 3.
Sally Fitzgibbons started the Heat as current No.1 of the Jeep Leaderboard, she leapt into the lead on her very first wave, receiving 6.50. Finally she earned total of 11.67 points. Sally Fitzgibbons said, “There’s plenty more surfing to be done, but it's so good to feel comfortable. You have to grab onto the lead at some point if you want to hold on to it for the rest of the year. I'm definitely going to try and hang on tight until the end of the year."
In Heat 2, 3-time world Champion Carissa Moore and 6-time world Champion Stephanie Gilmore (AUS) competed, also Bianca Buitendag (ZAF) came back to this event, battled with two champions.
Two champions were in a close game, both earned 6.50 points on the first wave each. But Carissa Moore showcased air 360 and got more 6.70 points. Stephanie Gilmore and Bianca Buitendag moved to Round 2. Carissa Moore said, "It's been a while since I've had a Round One win so I'm stoked. It's been a really challenging period but I'm really happy with the place I'm at now."
Swatch Pro winner Silvana Lima received 7.67 points in the second wave, leading the Heat. Addition, she earned 6.33 points in the third wave and she won with total of 14.00 points. Silvana Lima said, “I’m stoked to make it through and I'm just going to take it heat by heat from here. I'd love another win though!"- Cascais Women's Pro Round 1 Results:
