  • MotoGP Aragon: Dominant pole position for Marc Marquez

  • The Round 14 on MotoGP 2016, Aragon MotoGP qualifying session, MotoGP championship leader Marc Marquez (Repsol Honda Team) claimed his sixth pole position of the 2016 season.

Marc Marquez dominated other riders with 1'47.117s, Maverick Vinales (Team Suzuki Ecstar) was behind 0.631s Marquez.
Jorge Lorenzo (Movistar Yamaha MotoGP) was 3rd place on the front row. Andrea Dovizioso (Ducati Team) wound up fourth for Ducati.
Cal Crutchlow (Cal Crutchlow) and Dani Pedrosa (Repsol Honda Team) both crashed in the closing stages, at Turn 1 and at Turn 15 respectively.
This time, 2006 world champion Nicky Hayden is making a return to MotoGP, in place of the injured Jack Miller.
Alex Lowes sat out qualifying after a crash on Saturday morning, and his participation in the race is set to be determined by medical checks on Sunday.

Marc Marquez (P1): "At this circuit normally my speed is really good and I always feel good, but yesterday we struggled a lot with setup. Today we improved the setup a lot. Even like this, the tyres drop a lot so we have to manage that. One positive from today was also that even with the high temperatures I was able to use the hard front tyre - but tomorrow it looks more cloudy with even the possibility of rain so maybe that will be hard to use. But with the other tyres I feel ok too, and I'm happy with the pace this weekend. We've prepared well for the race and we'll just concentrate on our garage and try to do our best."

Maverick Viñales (P2): "Marc (Marquez) is very strong, but anyway I think we did a very good lap and I feel comfortable with our pace. Tomorrow we will put in 100% from the start, we will give it our best shot and to try to bring Suzuki another podium result. We have it very clear: if it's hotter temperatures we'll use the hard tyre and if not, we'll see. This isn't the best track for us with a lot of slow corners, but I'm feeling good on the bike."

Jorge Lorenzo (P3): "Here it seems like the opposite to Misano - the Honda is working really well and Marc can achieve an unbelievable level. For us it's difficult because Michelin have brought hard tyres here, in the front and rear, and I can't keep good corner speed - I go wide. But with a new soft rear tyre we are quite competitive and can get on the first row. Maybe tomorrow we can't use this tyre however, because especially on the right side it's getting destroyed very quickly - so let's find a better balance tomorrow and see if we can improve the long run pace."
