MotoGP Silverstone: Maverick Vinales takes stunning maiden win for Suzuki in British Grand Prix
The Round 12 on MotoGP 2016, Silverstone GP race witnessed Maverick Vinales (Team Suzuki Ecstar) took his first premier class victory and Suzuki's first victory since 2007.
The race was red-flagged on the first lap, due to an accident involving Pol Espargaro and Loris Baz at Maggotts.
Both were reported as being conscious, and taken to the medical centre for further checks.
After the restart for the shortened 19-lap race Vinales took to the front and received checkered-flag ahead of Cal Crutchlow (LCR Honda) for 3.480 seconds.
Pole position start, Cal Crutchlow claimed second, Valentino Rossi (Movistar Yamaha) finished third.
Marc Marquez (Repsol Honda Team) tried to pass Cal Crutchlow and Valentino Rossi several time, but he overshot the corner with two laps remaining. Eventually he took fourth.
The race result marks Marc Marquez leaves with a 50-point championship lead over Valentino Rossi, with Jorge Lorenzo a further 14 behind.
After the race Maverick Vinales said,
"It feels incredible, for what I've fought for all the time to come true…you know to have a race like that where all the time I could manage the gap…the lap times were so good. The team has worked so much and I'm so grateful to them. I came into the weekend thinking I could win because I've always been so great at Silverstone, and my bike was on a really good level. Today, we did it. This is a dream come true and I hope I can give Suzuki more things like this!"- OCTO BRITISH GRAND PRIX MotoGP Race Results:
