Harry Styles Performs “Kiwi”, “Adore”, “Lights Up” & “Watermelon Sugar” on the Today Show
Former One Direction Harry Styles appeared on the Today Show to perform four songs “Kiwi”, “Adore”, “Lights Up” and “Watermelon Sugar”.
Three songs except “Kiwi” are included on his sophomore solo album “Fine Line”, which was released last December.
The album reached No. 1 on on the Billboard 200, making it Styles' second consecutive number-one album in the US.
Harry Styles explained each song.
“Kiwi”: “It started out as a joke, now it’s one of my favorite songs. It’s one of the first ones I wrote for the album, when I was getting out a lot of energy. I hadn’t written in a long time and this is what came out of it.”
“Adore”; “It’s about that initial infatuation stage when you get that heavy feeling of just bliss, like a blissful, very joyous connection with someone. We wrote this in a day, we just had so much fun making it. They’re usually the ones that end up kind of working the best, the ones where everyone’s having fun making it […] they kind of just write themselves. It was definitely a good experience, making this song, very excited to have it out.”- “Lights Up”: “I mean, for me, I think, the song is about, like, you know, freedom and, I guess, self-reflection, self-discovery … I guess a couple things that I’d kind of thought about and, I guess, wrestled with a little bit of the last couple of years and then, I think, the song’s kind of about me just accepting those things.”
“Watermelon Sugar”: “Well the hardest song to finish was “Watermelon Sugar.” We wrote it in a day and then it took about a year to finish…Which was very frustrating but uh, happy with it now.”
He will embark on Love On Tour beginning at Arena Birmingham in Birmingham, UK on April 15th. The tour will conclude at Madison Square Garden in New York City on October 31st.
