Geri Halliwell Premieres New Song “Angels in Chains” on BBC Radio 2
English pop singer-songwriter and former Spice Girls' member Geri Halliwell has released a new song "Angels in Chains". The song received its first play exclusively on BBC Radio 2’s The Chris Evans Breakfast Show on Monday, June 19th.
It is a tribute to the late George Michael and will be donated to Childline, which is one of Michael’s favorite charities. Also, the song features several members of George’s band, including singer Shirley Lewis. The song is her first single in 4 years since "Half of Me".
About the new song, Geri Halliwell said;
“When I first heard the sad news of his passing, I was nine months pregnant with my son Monty and I was full of emotions. I didn’t know quite what to do with my feelings so I put it in a song, which became ‘Angels in Chains’.”
She stated about friendship with George Michael in an interview with Billboard;
"You know when you've got one of those friends that you don't have to see all the time but when you do, you just click back and you have the most honest relationship? I would say that's the kind of relationship. I felt that as a fan, and then I became a friend. I wanted him to be my boyfriend, but I wasn't his cup of tea. We had this connection. He'd lost his mother and I lost my father. Looking back, I looked to him for, sort of, objective fatherly advice sometimes. I'd go and take my music to him and say "What do you think?" I think you see what someone's made of when things aren't going as well as you hope and some people step up for you, and he always did that. When I left the Spice Girls, I went and lived with him. When I had my first child and I had nowhere to live, I went and lived with him for nine months. He was always a very kind person."-
